Different Address Types
There are several address types that can be used during forming a company which have different requirements and considerations for use.
Registered Address
This is a mandatory requirement for forming a company:
- It must have a registered address available before registering the company
- That address will be public, use an address you are comfortable being public
- An agent can provide an alternative address to use for an additional cost
In addition it should:
- Be a physical address in the UK
- Be in the same country your company is registered in, for example a company registered in Scotland must have a registered office address in Scotland
The address must also be ‘appropriate’. This means that:
- A company representative will be made aware of any post addressed and delivered
- Post received by the company at this address can have delivery confirmed
Service Address
This is a correspondence address for the company, It:
- Is on the public register
- Can be a non-UK address
- Where you will receive communications about the company
- May be the same as the registered address but does not have to be
Residential Address
This is current residential address of the members.
- You must tell Companies House your home address and ensure that it's kept up-to-date
- It will not be available on the public register for everyone to see unless you use it also as a Registered or Service address
- Your home address is kept on a private register.
