This training guide explains how to approve Posting & Bill Requests in Insight™ Legal.
Regarding the Posting & Bill Request Approvals in Insight™ Legal, you have two options, detailed below:
Option 1
This option is a dual authorization option, which will be required to be switched on under the system settings. To switch on this option, follow the steps below:
- Click on System.

Select Settings.
- On the Settings window, click on System Parameters.

Tick the Enable Posting Requests Approval checkbox.
Once a posting has been submitted for approval, it will need to be approved by a member of staff who has the posting request enabled and then posted to the Ledger by a different user.
The posting request can also be viewed on the home screen. To view the posting requests that are awaiting approval on the home screen, you need to tick the Unapproved checkbox in the Posting Requests section.
Once a request has been submitted by a Fee Earner or Secretary, this will appear on the home screen for a user to approve.

On the home screen, you will see a list of all requests waiting to be approved or declined. You can also view the Case Enquiry screen to see how the posting will affect the Ledger in question as well.
Once a posting has been approved, another user will need to go into the Account and click Requests to approve the posting, and it will appear on the Ledger. (See Option 2 for more details on the steps required for the posting to appear on the Ledger.
Option 2
This option doesn’t need the posting request to be switched on in system settings. This option requires a staff member to post a Posting Request or Bill Request, and then, once this has been submitted, the request can be approved by a member of the accounts team.
Once a user has made a posting request through the Case Enquiry screen, it can then be approved by Accounts and posted to the Ledger.
To see Posting Requests that have been made, follow the steps below:
- Go to Accounts.

Select Requests.

The list of requests will appear on the Requests section.
The requests can then be filtered using the options at the left of the screen for Branch, Department, Fee Earner or even Posting Type if desired.
The Posting Requests can be approved or declined immediately by using the Post or Decline buttons next to the entry.
Several requests can also be posted in one go by ticking the Include checkbox on each entry, and then click Post.
Posting Requests can also be edited by clicking on the entry. The details will appear in the details window below the list and the fields can be edited. Once all edits have been made, click Post.
Bill Requests need to be checked before they can be posted. To do this click on the Client Posting button next to the Bill Request Entry.
This opens the Matter Posting screen, where you can check and edit details, such as entering the correct bill number or verifying VAT rates on disbursements.
Once all amendments are made and details are verified, this bill can then be posted in the usual manner of the Post button at the bottom of the Summary Tab.
Once a Posting Request or a Bill Request has been posted by Accounts, the entry on the Ledger will change colour from green to black.
