This article explains adding and editing Legal Aid Codes in Unity ® Practice Management.
How to Access the Maintenance Option
- Open the Accounts program.
- Click the Maintenance icon.
- Double-click the Legal Aid Codes option
How to Add a Legal Aid Code
- Click Insert.
- Enter a Code and Description.
- Enter a Sort Order to dictate how items appear in the Legal Aid Codes list. An item with a Sort Order value 1 will appear at the top.
- Untick the Active checkbox to mark the Legal Aid Codes inactive. The Legal Aid Codes will no longer be available for selection within the Accounts and Coredata programs.
- Tick the checkbox if it is a SPAN code.
- Enter a Rate code.
- Click Save.
**The Rate code usually matches the Legal Aid Code (e.g., CR for Crown Court Work). However, this is not always the case. For instance, Legal Aid Codes 1A–1G all share the Rate code 1 due to identical rates. If you require more information about Legal Aid Code structures, consult a fee earner or the Legal Services Commission. **
How to Edit an Existing Legal Aid Code
- Click on the Legal Aid Code from the list.
- The information for the selected record will be displayed in the Details section, and any field can be edited.
- Once you have edited the Legal Aid Code, click Save.
How to Delete a Legal Aid Code
You cannot delete a Legal Aid Code; you can make it inactive instead. Follow the steps below to make a Legal Aid Code inactive.
- Click on the Legal Aid Code from the list.
- Untick the Active checkbox.
- Click Save.
** By default, inactive items are not displayed within the Accounts and Coredata program or on the reports unless you specifically request to view them via the options. **
