This article explores the Linking Matters function within Insight.
The Linking Matters function is used when a matter has a task dependent on a task from a different
matter being completed first.
For example, a client may be using your services to sell and buy a house. You would create two different matters, Sale and Purchase, where the Purchase should not progress past a certain point unless the Sale has also passed that point.
1. The Link Matter task will be available within Case Enquiry for the appropriate matter. The task can be part of the usual workflow or as an Adhoc Task. When the task is available, you will be prompted to search for the linking matter.
2. You can enter the matter reference or use the Lookup function to search for the matter. If you click on the Look Up, a separate Matter Lookup box will appear. Search for the relevant matter and select it. Please note that only matters that fit the linking criteria will appear. For example, if you are linking the matter whilst in a Purchase Workflow, only Sale Matter Types will be available for selection and vice versa. The Matter Type Link is created by Insight Legal Software.
3. Once you have selected the appropriate matter, the Matter Reference and Description will be brought through. To save the action, click on the complete action button.
The matter you have linked to will be displayed in the Related Matters tab in Case Enquiry.
4. Once the matter has been linked any Milestones Hit Action Type tasks will need to be completed before tasks with Milestone Hit Trigger can be activated.
