This article explains how to perform a Client/Matter search in Unity® Practice Management.
General Information
- Allows you to search for an existing client within Coredata.
How to Access this Option
- Open the Coredata program.
- Click Find.
How To Perform A Client/Matter
Select the Search method:
- By default, the system will search by whatever criteria have been specified in the search settings. An alternative can be selected via the dropdown menu.
Enter the information to search for:
- The type of information entered will vary depending upon the search method chosen in step 1.
- For more accurate results, enter as much information as possible.
Select a Fee Earner:
- This option will only be available if the Fee Earner option was selected in step 1.
Select the Client Type:
- Select to search through (i) all clients, (ii) companies only, (iii) groups only, (iv) singles only, (v) entries marked unknown.
Select the Matter Status:
- Select to search through (i) all matters (ii) live matters only (iii) archived matters only.
- Tick the Show Newest Matters First checkbox if you want to order information chronologically, i.e., with the newest matters at the top of the search results list. This option can be helpful if you are searching for a client with a large number of matters.
- Click Find.
- The main search results window is split into 3 sections. A list of clients matching the search criteria will be displayed in the upper section. Click on any client record and:
- A list of related matters will display in the middle section.
- A list of related members will display in the lower section (Please note this section can be disabled by clicking the "Members Hide" checkbox).
How To Perform An Advanced Client/Matter Search
- Click More, and the search window will expand to reveal a lower section.
- The row of tabs along the top of the lower section represents the different categories you can search under (e.g., Deeds, Addresses)
- Click on a tab, and the area directly below will alter, allowing you to select from a range of search options within the selected category.
- Click Find to display the search results in the lower window.
- To select a client or matter, either double-click the required record or click the record once to highlight it, then click Details.
